The Academy was founded 70 years ago as the Academy of Acting Arts. It was devoted to the education of theatre actors, directors and playwriters. Following the growth of professional film production and the introduction of television in Slovenia in the late fifties, the Academy of Acting Arts expanded its curriculum with cinema and radio in 1963 and, shortly afterwards, with television as well. Gradually, the Academy developed a regular production of short films as well as radio and television broadcasts, included into curriculum. According to these changes, in 1963 the Academy of Acting Arts was renamed the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT). In 1975 it became a member of the University of Ljubljana.
Today its graduates are leading directors, writers, producers and audiovisual professionals in Slovenia. Their works have been screened and won awards and critical acclaim at the most important student and professional film festivals.
