PROGRAM for the 3rd and 4th of May

TOMORROW THE PRE-OPENING SHINES A LIGHT ON THE CA’ FOSCARI SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 12

WEDNESDAY: PETER LORD AND AARDMAN STUDIO’S ANIMATION TOGETHER WITH THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION’S SHORTS

It begins tomorrow, with a great pre-opening event, the 12th edition of Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival that will officially begin Wednesday and will last until Saturday in “widespread” form across Venice. In addition to the historic Auditorium Santa Margherita, where all screenings will take place, some programs will be visible also across other foundations and cultural institutions of the city, some like Fondazione Ugo e Olga Levi, Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Museo d’Arte Orientale – Ca’ Pesaro, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa e Casa del Cinema di Venezia.

Tomorrow’s pre-opening will see Japan as the protagonist, putting together in an ideal dialogue two nipponic directors that will be celebrated during the festival. All will begin at 16.00 in Auditorium Santa Margherita with Shin’ya Tsukamoto’s masterpiece, A Snake of June, presented thanks to RaroVideo Channel and Nikkatsu. In the movie, Rinko (played by the extraordinary Asuka Kurosawa) will be led to rediscover her own sexuality by a photographer/stalker that sends her incriminating photos threatening to ruin her calm (and unsatisfying) marriage. On the 6th of May, spectators will be able to make a direct comparison with the literary form of the movie that Tsukamoto himself will present remotely on the occasion of the publishing of the Italian edition of the book for Marsilio.

After this, Yukiko Mishima will present in person her later feature film, Shape of Red, a delicate feminine portrait in which the sentimental life of the protagonist, that is serenely lived with her husband, is shaken by an encounter with her ex-boyfriend. Mishima will then be the protagonist of a special program, the 5th of May at 18.00. during which spectators will be able to deepen their knowledge of the author’s filmography through a live interview on the Auditorium’s stage and the screening of her short film “Ode to Joy”.

Wednesday’s program in Auditorium Santa Margherita will open at 14.00 with East Asia Now, a display of the best asian short films recently produced, that will be followed at 15.00 by a special on Aardman Studio’s animation, the creators of Wallace & Gromit. After the opening at 17.00 it will be the moment for one of the most anticipated guests, the great english animator Peter Lord, with a live interview on stage and screening of some of his works. The day will end at 20.00 with the first six films from the International Competition, dedicated to the best short films produced in the last year in cinema schools and universities all over the world, like the brasilian Neon Phantom by Leonardo Martinelli, already presented at Locarno, and the iranian Congenital by Saman Hosseinpour and Ako Zandkarimi, who return to Short after last year’s win. At 17.30 will start the programs that take place in the other sites of the festival, like Fondazione Querini Stampalia which will welcome the animator Barry Purves, who will present his work between animation and theater, while the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa will present the programs Lo Sguardo Sospeso and Il corpo Svelato. In conclusion, at Casa del Cinema, there will be a re-proposition of Studio Aardman and East Asia Now’s programs.
