A WIDESPREAD FESTIVAL: 11 LOCATIONS, SCATTERED ALL OVER VENICE, WHERE YOU CAN WATCH THE SELECTED FILMS
Today, the 11th edition of the Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival was presented at Spazio Regione Veneto (hosted by Hotel Excelsior), during the 78th Venice International Film Festival. This year it will take place from the 6th to the 9th of October, and will be held in a widespread manner throughout the “floating” city of Venice.
The Artistic and Managing Director of the festival, Roberta Novielli, saw this occasion as the perfect opportunity to highlight the growth of the event, in spite of the various safety measures and restrictions due to the global pandemic, and the high quality of the 30 works that are participating in the international competition. These works were selected among more than 2500 candidates, and form the beating heart of the festival.
Noteworthy participants include Daniele Ferrara, Director of Direzione Regionale Musei Veneto and Nicoletta Seggio, Communication Manager at Concilio Europeo Dell’Arte. Moreover, through this event, Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival has unveiled two of their new partners for the upcoming edition, with a video message from Zhang Xiaobei, General Manager for Europe at Guang Hua Cultures et Media, and a speech from Luca Baroncini from WeShort, an on demand cinema platform specialised in short films.
As for the venues, the organisation has announced that this year there will be eleven partner locations, in addition to the historic one, Auditorium Santa Margherita. As a matter of fact, from the last edition, the festival became widespread, perfectly integrated with the city of Venice and its primary institutions.
The public will be able to watch films not only in Auditorium Santa Margherita, but also in museums, art galleries, and cultural institutions located on both the islands and the mainland (Mestre) of Venice, such as Fondazione Ugo e Olga Levi, an eminent international centre dedicated to music studies and musicology. Other locations are the same as last year, for example Fondazione Querini Stampalia, a historical Venetian library and house museum that also hosts concerts, meetings, exhibits, shows, and workshops. The Ca’ Foscari Short will be hosted yet again at Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ D’oro, Museo di Palazzo Grimani, Venice National Archaeological Museum, and, from this year, also at Museo d’Arte Orientale – Ca’ Pesaro. These four national museums are part of the Polo Museale Regionale del Veneto, whose objective is to ensure the performance of public services when it comes to the preservation and promotion of national cultural sites and institutions. Another venue that has accepted to once again host the festival is Concilio Europeo Dell’Arte – In Paradiso Art Gallery, an association for social advancement located in Venice that was born to build relations among artists, cultural institutions, local authorities, universities and private parties. Films will be also shown anew at Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, which deals with contemporary art and emerging artists and, since the 1900s, has been a unique case in Italy in supporting artistic expression. Finally, NH Venezia Rio Novo, the 4-star theme-based hotel dedicated to cinema that NH Hotel Group inaugurated in Dorsoduro (Venice) in 2018.
Among the novelties of this edition, there are M9 – The Museum of the 20th Century, that narrates the compelling history of the 20th century through an immersive and engaging experience and offers an opportunity to watch the selected film in Mestre too, and Casa del Cinema, an institution that hosts the activities of Videoteca Pasinetti and enhances the city’s cultural offering through classics in the original version with subtitles, auteur cinema festivals, Venetian films and videos, book presentations and meetings with authors.
The complete line-up of the 11th edition of the festival will be unveiled during the press conference that will take place on the 17th of September at 11:00 AM in Aula Berengo at Ca’ Foscari University’s main campus.
