Keiko Kusakabe was born in Tokyo, she started her film career in 1986 as a freelance publicist.
She was involved in advertisement of theatrical films of U.S. major studios, Japanese indies and Europa as one of the founding members of There’s Enterprise Inc. In 2005 she started working as president of the Makotoya Co.,Ltd., her parents company, being involved in all aspects of the film industry from acquisition, theatrical distribution, promotion, production, financing and foreign sales. In particular she produced and distributed many films by distinguished directors such as Nanni Moretti (Ecce Bombo, 1978 Palombella Rossa, 1989), Shinya Tsukamoto (Bullet Ballet, 1998 and KOTOKO, 2011), Toshiaki Toyoda (Blue Spring, 2001), Kazuyoshi Kumakiri (Green Mind, Metal Bats, 2006 e Non-ko, 2009), Nobuteru Uchida (Love Addiciton, 2010) and Yoshihiko Matsui (The Noisy Requiem, 1988). Keiko Kusakabe also contributed to the introduction of Japanese movies in the world. In fact, she was one of the jury members in Orizzonti section of the 63rd Venice International Film Festival and a member of the commission of Ca’Foscari Short Film Festival in 2013. She has recently released “WONDER FULL!!”, 14 short non-narrative animation movies directed by Mirai Mizue, still unknown in Japan, but as unique as Tsukamoto or Shinkai. The movie was screened in several movie-theaters.
