This year’s edition of the Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival will include a special program dedicated to the New York World Film Fair (WFF), a global platform with a focus on upcoming new talents in the film industry. On its first edition, which was held on October 26th-31st, 2018, ten short movies from the 8th Edition of Ca’ Foscari Short were screened, alongside with animator Barry Purves’s video Masterclass dedicated to stop motion animation and transmedia art, which had been recorded as part of the Master in Fine Arts in Filmmaking at Ca’ Foscari University. Created with the aim of promoting the most promising works by emerging directors to a global audience of cinema enthusiasts and movie industry professionals, WFF is the newest yet fast-growing organization in the film industry which brings together a wide range of productions (from independent movies to genre films), but at the same time committed to gathering industry professionals such as buyers, production companies, investors and distributors willing to support new projects by giving them the visibility and recognition they deserve – even beyond the festival itself.
In addition to the locations of New York and Los Angeles where the International Competition is held, the Film Market Exchange Program is the newly launched initiative offering the opportunity to screen films at partner festivals and worldwide locations, such as the Joy House Film Festival and Bayside Film Festival in Australia, the Film Festival of Shimla (India), the Amorgos Festival (Greece), the Niles Diaspora International Film Festival in Uganda and, this year, at the Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival as well. Making the most out of the website network and potential, WFF is able to provide its guests a unique and unprecedented platform which allows them to go beyond their own national borders so that their works may be appreciated on a global scale.
