Short Film Festival Meets Cinedeaf

Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival is dealing this year with Cinedeaf, Rome International Deaf Film Festival. Born in 2012 with the support of ISSR (Istituto Statale per Sordi Roma), the first public school dedicated to deaf people in Italy, representing today an important spot for training and research on the topic of  deafness, the Festival is pursuing the promotion of potentialities and talent of deaf people in the frame of  film industry.

The event is a unique occasion in order to foster the idea of the variety of cultural expressions, thanks to its link with the enterprise of Deaf Cinema, which is the field of the film industry directed and performed by deaf people using sign language, focusing on the topic of deafness and its implications. The ambitious aim of Cinedeaf is to create a network around Italian Deaf Film Industry, making an effort in order to spread and publicize it, to make possible the meeting between people working in the branch and their training, but also to make people aware of deaf culture and of the power of cinema in diversity integration.

An important step in the endorsement has been the creation of  a catalogue of unpublished works from all over the world.

The concept of Cultural Accessibility proposed by Unesco becomes a real perspective:  an appointment not to be missed for all the new independent talents from all over the world, supporting the idea of a film industry without barriers in the fruition, thanks to subtitles and interpreters in sign  language.
