Fusako Yusaki is an internationally renowned artist who was born in Japan. She has been living in Italy for over 50 years and undoubtedly is the absolute protagonist of clay animation in Italy and pioneer of clay animation in cinema. Clay is the main element in her works. It represents life: it grows, it is dynamic, it changes. Fusako loves to give shape to clay, to think about what can come out even from a rough piece of it. Her characters see the world through the eyes of a child and express moves and feelings by a wise use of lights and colours. They are rascals whose world is full of colour, beauty and optimism. Each shape is an important element of the narration, which is performed by using the stop motion technique.
At the 5th edition of the Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival a review of Fusako Yusaki’s outstanding works will be shown. Although the variety of her production is indeed vast, her famous commercials for Fernet Branca and Chiquita will be presented, as well as some episodes from the television series TokiDoki, Talpy, Peo, Naccio & Pom, Polis. Besides, her new creation for Rai will be shown in preview, an episode of the serie Oto and Music. The public will be offered the opportunity to watch her educational short films, those made for Antenna Verde and dedicated to earth, colours, shapes and to Hippocrates. As for her film production, the Short Film Festival will show: La ballata dell’omino stanco, Convergenza, Rosa dei venti e Un giorno sì, uno no, without forgetting her short episode in the collective film Fuyu no hi by Kawamoto Kihachiro.
