The sixth edition of Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival keeps its focus on environmental issues with the fourth edition of the video-contest, a project born in collaboration between Ca’ Foscari Short and Sustainable Ca’ Foscari, programme of the venetian university aimed to the activation of projects on sustainability issues. The commitments on the sustainability perspective stated in economical, social and environmental aspects are written down in a document: the Sustainability Commitments Charter. The Charter aims to set ambitious goals in a long-term strategic and operational plan. Ca’ Foscari Short for its part is proud to be a festival designed by young people for young people, therefore it always cares about technological developments, innovation and all the aspects related to sustainability. Ca’ Foscari Short’s and Sustainable Ca’ Foscari’s approaches merge into this project which engages artists in first person.
The fourth edition of the video-contest Short & Sustainability is addressed to all those people , students or not, under 35 years of age. The competition aims to encourage young talents to re-think in an original and proposing way the concept of sustainability in one of its forms, which can be summarized in three broad categories: environmental, social and economic. It also promotes the use of low energy consumption instruments within anyone’s reach, such as smartphones and digital cameras, since they have become more and more advanced and able to provide excellent results, without the need for expensive professional equipment.
The works were submitted to the accurate selection of a composite jury, careful to both the artistic merit and the incisiveness of the concept. Led by the cinema expert and historian Carlo Montanaro, the jury is composed by Ca’ Foscari students, assisted by the Rector’s Delegate for Sustainability, prof. Fabio Pranovi, and the staff of Sustainable Ca’ Foscari, whom helped them in the interpretation of the concept of sustainability.
