ANTEA – The gossip of Calle degli Assassini

In modern-day Venice, a young woman named Antea, a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts, is looking for a room to rent. She lands up sharing a house with Alvise, a man descended from a noble Venetian family, who has been living as a recluse in his own home for years. Over time, his way of living gave rise to rumors, that is people believed he had killed his previous housemates. Antea enters Alvise’s house, slowly falling under his spell, trying to discover the landlord’s secret. All told by three Venetian ladies.

VIU – Films in Venice and Filming Venice

The fourth edition of the VIU Summer School on Films in Venice and Filming Venice, an initiative of Venice International University, in partnership with its member universities Ca’ Foscari, Iuav, Tel Aviv, Waseda, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, and Exeter was organized to coincide with the 79th International Venice Film Festival (online July 29 – August 5, 2022, and in person August 29 – September 7, 2022) and involved 25 students from all over the world.

The aim of the School is to combine film theory and practice, applying them to representations of Venice, through a multidisciplinary and multicultural approach, reflected both in the composition of the faculty and the student body.

Departure (17’30”)
The last day in the city of an illegal immigrant employee who is trying to put together the money she needs to buy her own freedom. As she runs to finish her last day as a delivery courier, in the attempt of meeting the person who will give her back her passport, she happens to experience the invisible side of Venice at the night and through her desperation. On this last night, she still has one last decision to make.

A young artist arrives in Venice in search of inspiration for her next piece, yet she finds herself disillusioned and alone in a foreign crowded city. When a mysterious, phantom-like woman holding a pair of old fashioned binoculars begins appearing wherever she goes, a burst of curiosity sparks in an otherwise dull and disappointing vacation.

The Farewell Collections Vol. 1 is a journey that includes two vignettes conveying an implicit sort of farewell. The idea is to evoke the universal and ubiquitous experience of saying goodbye to something, at the same time drawing attention to the complexity of the lives of others, much like our own.

As longtime best friends, Sofia, Geno and Ines explore the wonderful city of Venice they are slowly struck by the abscence of their best friend Vito. While discovering the city – and simultanously themselves – they are confronted by their own shortcomings, idiosyncrasies and most of all their slowly unraveling friendship. Will they be able to make it without Vito?
