The ‘Francesco Pasinetti’ VideoContest, now in its 21st edition, has become a meeting point for young people, amateurs and professionals in the film industry; one of its aims is to promote film productions, including independent and experimental ones, in Venice.
The Pasinetti Festival, presided over by Anna Ponti and curated by Michela Nardin, Giovanni Andrea Martini, Marco Paladini, Isabella Albano, Gaetano Salerno and Martina Zennaro, intends to pay particular attention to short films that deal with social, cultural and environmental issues and to the documentary genre, especially when related to the city of Venice.
The Festival continues its close collaboration with the world of schools and, in particular, with the Liceo Artistico Michelangelo Guggenheim (Michelangelo Guggenheim Art School), which saw the Festival right from its very first edition, when the Institute was still called Istituto Statale d’Arte di Venezia.
One of the prize-giving days this year will be hosted in the Guggenheim’s Aula Magna (Lecture Hall).
The Competition continues to focus on the city, recounting its life and tradition, while remaining attentive to the present and to the prospects for the future. Once again, the days of the festival will be held in different parts of the city: the Casa del Cinema, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, the Kolbe Cultural Centre, Forte Mezzacapo, the Mostra del Cinema in the Veneto Region space, and also in the Municipality of Cibiana di Cadore (Province of Belluno, Veneto region, Dolomites), a place rich in history and charm, which will host, thanks to Mayor Mattia Gosetti, a Pasinetti evening dedicated to mountain cinema.
The title of the section is “Are they stones or are they clouds?” from a quote by Dino Buzzati. The landscape, architecture and stories of the Pale Mountains, in the Dolomites, are the themes of the event.
As every year, the “Volunteer Showcase” will award a special prize
This year a new section is dedicated to a dramatically topical theme: ‘I love you… to the point of living’ – at school of feelings to recognise the breath of love.
The prize jury is chaired by Manfredo Manfroi, president emeritus of the Circolo Fotografico La Gondola, and includes experts in the field and personalities connected to the city’s culture.
Venice is the theme of a special prize of the “Venice One City!” Association, which sums up the underlying theme of all the sections: the right to live in welcoming realities, in which dialogue is a precious toof of knowledge, in which diversity is richness, in which cordial coexistence is the basis of the relationships among people.
