SYNOPSIS: The short film Jackpot is an action comedy about a young man addicted to gambling machines who tries to impress a waitress in a bar telling her about a tragic story of a Balkan gangster, hoping to get some money from her. The secondary characters that appear in another narrative line are so absurd, yet still believable, that the viewer questions the truthfulness of the story being told.
PROFILE: Márk Makkai was born in Romania in 1999, and in 2018 he graduated from high school in his hometown, Marghita. He then continued his studies at the Sapientia University of Transylvania, specializing in Film, Photography, and Media in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He obtained his BA degree in Cinematography in 2021. In 2023, he earned an MA degree in Film Studies at Sapientia. He presently lives in Budapest, and he continues to work in the field of filmmaking, script writing and editing.
